Faizyme Laboratories (Pty) Ltd was founded by Faizel Kariel in May 1994 and is a small privately owned company with a total staff complement of approximately 30 people.

Since 1994, Faizyme Laboratories has established itself as a leading manufacturer and supplier of a select range of proteins and enzymes to the diagnostic and pharmaceutical industries, worldwide. The proteins and enzymes are extracted, in an aqueous solution, from a variety of animal and plant tissues. Various biochemical techniques are used to isolate and purify the proteins and enzymes of choice. The purified products are in turn supplied to the trade as lyophilised powders or crystalline suspensions of varying potencies.

The Head office and manufacturing facilities of Faizyme are located in Philippi approximately 20 km from Cape Town City central. These facilities were custom-built for Faizyme and commissioned in 2006 and provide the much needed additional capacity to meet the escalating demand for the company’s products.

When originally founded, Faizyme’s only product was Peroxidase and having achieved a reasonable degree of success with the sale of this enzyme to diagnostic companies worldwide, the company gradually expanded its range of products for supply to the international diagnostic and pharmaceutical industries.

The high standard of customer service that the company endeavours to provide by rapid and comprehensive replies to customer enquiries and the timeous delivery of customer orders is considered to be an essential ingredient to successful participation in the international market.

More than 200 years experience in the commercial isolation and purification of enzymes is embraced in Faizyme’s small staff complement, with the founder having nearly forty years’ experience. This know-how includes the development of unique purification procedures, enzymatic assays and related analytical procedures, quality assurance systems, international regulatory requirements, the international enzyme market and the biotechnical applications of enzymes in various industries.

In addition to Faizyme’s Quality Management Systems being certified to conform to the standards of ISO 9001, Faizyme has the following accreditations:

• Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) – in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO) for pharmaceutical / biological products
