Raw Materials

The farming district of Philippi where Faizyme is located, supplies a large percentage of vegetable crops to Cape Town markets and the surrounding districts. Zucchini (Cucurbita sp.) is an important crop grown in this area and harvested over the period October to June. Raw material for the production of Ascorbate oxidase is readily available and the advantage presented is that crops of the optimum maturity for enzyme production can be selected. Zucchini is also grown on `Valota Farm'.

Quality

The specification has been defined as > 200 units / mg material. The product is presented as a chromatographically prepared freeze-dried powder containing stabiliser. Ascorbate oxidase in the form of a semi-purified precipitate can also be offered as the 'raw material' for the preparation of the purified enzyme.
